Een\nfolly (Engels voor dwaasheid) is een bouwwerk dat met opzet nutteloos\nof bizar is. Een folly is een niet-conventioneel gebouw, ongeschikt\nvoor huisvesting of andere functies en geen een ander doel dienend\ndan decoratie. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Folly’s werden in het verleden veel gebruikt voor toevoegingen aan landgoederen. Met name eind 18e tot begin 19e eeuw was het in de mode om op een landgoed enige romantische elementen te laten bouwen. Populair waren bijvoorbeeld geconstrueerde ruïnes en grotten, namaakkapellen en zogenaamde verblijfplaatsen voor kluizenaars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
